Andrea Johnson and Feroz Khan Arrested Over Alleged Docket Leak
Former IDAC Head Andrea Johnson and Ex-Crime Intelligence Boss Feroz Khan Arrested
The pair are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court after being arrested on allegations linked to defeating the ends of justice.
Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson and former Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan have been arrested and are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. Authorities say the arrests relate to allegations of defeating the ends of justice.
The arrests follow months of scrutiny stemming from evidence presented at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where testimony centred on the alleged handling of a confidential police docket linked to a 2018 assault complaint against Khan.
Alleged Docket Leak at Centre of Case
According to evidence presented to the commission, Johnson allegedly shared contents of an assault docket involving Khan before investigators had completed critical stages of their investigation. Testimony suggested that information from the case file was sent via a private email account and later provided to Khan.
The complaint was reportedly lodged by Crime Intelligence officer Brigadier Leonora Phetlhe, who accused Khan of assault and intimidation. The docket allegedly contained witness statements, medical reports and other evidence connected to the case.
Former Hawks investigator Kobus Roelofse told the commission that access to the docket may have enabled Khan to prepare his response before submitting a warning statement to investigators.
Fallout From the Madlanga Commission
The commission’s proceedings placed both Johnson and Khan under intense public scrutiny. Evidence presented included allegations that the two shared a close relationship extending beyond professional interactions.
Johnson resigned as head of IDAC in July 2026 following her appearance before the commission, while Khan was later dismissed from the South African Police Service after failing to attend disciplinary proceedings.
Court Appearance Expected
Authorities confirmed that warrants for the arrests were authorised before the pair were taken into custody. They are expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court where the matter will begin its legal process.
Police and prosecutors have indicated that investigations remain ongoing and further developments may follow as the case progresses through the courts.
The arrests mark a significant development in one of the highest-profile controversies to emerge from the Madlanga Commission, which has been investigating allegations of corruption, criminality and interference within the criminal justice system.
