Foreign National Beaten to Death During Durban CBD Protest

Police launch murder investigation as tensions linked to anti-immigration protests continue in Durban.

A foreign national was beaten to death in Durban’s central business district on Thursday, prompting a murder investigation by KwaZulu-Natal police.

The fatal incident occurred amid ongoing anti-immigration demonstrations that have taken place in parts of Durban this week.

According to police, a group of protesters was marching through the city when two individuals allegedly broke away from the crowd and approached a man who was standing along a roadside in the CBD.
Authorities allege that the victim was subsequently attacked by a large group of people and was declared dead at the scene.
The deceased, believed to be in his late 30s or early 40s, has not yet been formally identified.

The killing comes amid growing tensions surrounding immigration issues, following recent demonstrations involving e-hailing drivers and motorcyclists in Durban. Several protests have taken place across the city, with reports of disruptions affecting businesses operated by foreign nationals.
Police have confirmed that a murder case has been opened and investigators are pursuing several leads in an effort to identify and apprehend those responsible.

At this stage, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

Law enforcement officials have urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.

The incident has added to concerns over escalating tensions in Durban, where immigration-related protests have drawn significant public attention in recent days.
Police said further details would be released as the investigation progresses.
