AFU Secures R99 Million Restraint Order Against Mpumalanga Taxi Boss Joe ‘Ferrari’ Sibanyoni

Luxury properties, high-end vehicles and bank accounts linked to alleged organised crime activities have been frozen pending further legal proceedings.

The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has obtained a restraint order targeting assets worth an estimated R99 million belonging to Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and several alleged associates.

The order forms part of efforts by authorities to pursue assets believed to be connected to allegations of organised crime and extortion.

Luxury Properties Included

Among the assets covered by the court order are several high-value properties located in Gauteng.

These include luxury homes situated in Centurion golf estates as well as additional residential properties in Centurion and Pretoria.

The restraint order prevents the assets from being sold, transferred or disposed of while legal proceedings continue.

Fleet of Luxury Vehicles Targeted

Authorities have also frozen a collection of luxury vehicles allegedly linked to Sibanyoni and his associates.

According to reports, the restrained assets include:

  • Ferrari vehicles
  • Porsche vehicles
  • Lexus vehicles
  • Mercedes-Benz vehicles
  • BMW vehicles

The collection forms part of the estimated R99 million in assets identified by investigators.

Bank Accounts and Investments Frozen

In addition to properties and vehicles, the court order extends to multiple bank accounts and investment portfolios.

The affected individuals have reportedly been instructed to surrender control of these financial assets to a court-appointed curator responsible for managing the restrained assets.

Focus on Organised Crime Allegations

The restraint order is linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged organised crime and extortion activities.

A restraint order does not amount to a criminal conviction but is intended to preserve assets while legal proceedings continue.

Should authorities ultimately succeed in proving that the assets were acquired through criminal activities, the state may pursue their permanent forfeiture.

Major Blow to Crime Proceeds

The latest court action represents one of the most significant asset restraint orders involving a prominent figure in the taxi industry.

The AFU, which operates under the National Prosecuting Authority, regularly uses civil asset forfeiture legislation to target proceeds of alleged criminal activity and prevent suspects from benefiting from unlawfully acquired wealth.

The investigation and related legal proceedings are expected to continue as authorities seek to determine the final fate of the restrained assets.
