Cole Palmer Is Suspended Against Liverpool but Can Face Man United

Cole Palmer Suspended for Liverpool Clash but Available Against Manchester United

Chelsea star will serve a one-match ban after his red card against Tottenham, but domestic suspension rules mean he will be back sooner than many fans expected.

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer will miss his side’s upcoming Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool after being sent off during the Blues’ 2-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The England international received the first red card of his professional career after picking up two yellow cards late in the London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Why Palmer Is Suspended

Palmer was initially booked following a confrontation involving Tottenham’s Mateus Fernandes before receiving a second yellow card for a late challenge on former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

As the dismissal came from two yellow cards rather than a straight red card, the punishment carries an automatic one-match suspension.

Under English football regulations, suspensions resulting from red cards can be served in domestic competitions, not just the competition in which the offence occurred.

Why He Misses Liverpool

Chelsea’s next domestic fixture is a Carabao Cup match against Liverpool at Anfield.

Because that is the first available domestic game following the red card, Palmer’s suspension will be served in that fixture.

As a result, he will be unavailable for the cup tie but will have completed his ban once the match concludes.

Available for Manchester United

The good news for Chelsea is that Palmer’s suspension only lasts for one match.

After missing the Liverpool encounter, he will be eligible for selection again when Chelsea return to Premier League action against Manchester United.

This means manager Xabi Alonso will only be without one of his most influential players for a single game.

Neville Criticises Palmer

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was critical of Palmer’s actions, suggesting the playmaker allowed frustration to affect his judgment.

Neville described the second challenge as unnecessary and said the referee had little choice but to issue a second yellow card.

The sending-off proved costly for Chelsea, who struggled with ten men as Tottenham secured victory through an own goal and a late strike from Mathys Tel.

Chelsea Look to Respond

Palmer’s absence presents a significant challenge for Chelsea ahead of the trip to Liverpool, given his importance in the team’s attacking play.

However, with the suspension being limited to one match, the Blues will be relieved to have their star midfielder available again for the crucial league fixture against Manchester United.

Alonso will now have to find a temporary solution against Liverpool before welcoming Palmer back into the squad for next week’s Premier League action.
