Johannesburg – Popular radio personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock has been killed in what police believe was a professional hit, allegedly carried out for a bounty of R300 000.
Two suspects were apprehended at a Soweto hostel early Monday morning as detectives acted on leads gathered over the past week. National Police Commissioner Fanie Masemola had promised a breakthrough, and investigators now suspect the assassination is tied to criminal syndicates controlling hijacked buildings in Johannesburg’s CBD.
The announcement formed part of a broader progress report on violent crime investigations in Gauteng:
A suspect in the Saulsville tavern massacre faces 12 counts of murder and 13 of attempted murder.
A new suspect was arrested in the Tembisa double murder of a school principal and clerk.
Investigations continue into the Bekkersdal tavern shooting, where nine people were killed and ten wounded.
Warras’ family and colleagues described the loss as deeply shattering, with tributes pouring in from the entertainment community. He was widely regarded as one of South Africa’s most talented radio voices, known for his energy and influence in the industry.
The suspects remain in custody for questioning, with police expected to announce whether formal charges will follow. The alleged R300 000 bounty underscores the scale of organized crime infiltrating Johannesburg’s entertainment and urban spaces, leaving the industry and the public reeling from the loss of one of its brightest stars.
