East London — January 2, 2026 What began as a routine request to move a parked car turned into a violent and humiliating ordeal for security guard Xolisile Nongodlwana at Ebuhlanti Marina Glen in East London.
Nongodlwana said his “mistake” was asking a group of men to move their vehicle, which was blocking another. In a Facebook post, he recalled their dismissive response: “Xa singayisusi uzokwenza ntoni?” — loosely translated as, “What are you going to do if we don’t move it?”
A video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, allegedly shows the men kicking and manhandling him. Nongodlwana described the assault as degrading and traumatic, saying it left him feeling “useless” and fearful for his job.
Despite the humiliation, he has received overwhelming support online, with social media users helping to identify the alleged perpetrators. One of the suspects was confirmed as an employee of Baagi Technology, a contractor for Exxaro Resources.
Exxaro Resources issued a statement condemning the assault: “Exxaro Resources does not tolerate any behaviour that is contrary to our values. The alleged suspect’s access to our company has been immediately revoked. Baagi Technology is attending to this matter with urgency.”
Police confirmed that two suspects have been arrested and charged with common assault. Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said the investigation remains active and further arrests are likely.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting concerns about workplace safety and respect for frontline workers.
